Have you ever read a book called ’The 5 Second Rule’’ which is written by Mel Robbins?


If not. Then I suggest you continue to read this blog post because this rule is definitely 100% legit and can be used in many areas in your life, such as starting your journey towards Positive Body Image.



But first, what is The 5 Second Rule and how does it work?


There are five-seconds between your initial instinct to act and your brain stopping you. So, instead of letting your brain stop you, you count 5-4-3-2-1 and you take an action that is based on your initial instinct.


In her book, she mentions ''If I knew that I should do something that could change me for the better, then I would use the Rule to push myself to do it, regardless of how I felt. I started using the rule to force myself to not only get up early, but also to get to the gym, look for a job, drink less, and be a better parent and wife.''

How can you use it for starting your journey towards positive body image?



Before we get into the examples of how can you use the 5 second rule in different situations. First, things first.


Why

you want to start your journey towards a positive body image. What is the reason behind it? Is it because you are doing it for yourself or you are doing it for someone else?

It is very important that you do it for yourself, because it will be your journey. Instead of striving for someone else’s beauty and body, focus on embracing yours. Otherwise you will have an expectation of someone else’s result and in the long term it won’t work well.



1. If you aren’t motivated enough to make healthier life choices, such as doing more physical activities or eating healthier.





This is how to use the rule:

5-4-3-2-1 and choose healthier option or say no to something that isn’t good for your health.

5-4-3-2-1 and change your clothes to leggings and a t-shirt and do some physical activity (go for a walk, do some stretching or a workout)

2. If you have been struggling with being confident in certain situations such as when someone is saying mean things to you about your body or look.

Important note: Positive Body Image to me means that instead of striving for someone else's beauty, you are embracing your own and becoming a better version of yourself by taking care of your well being, both mentally and physically. By better version of yourself I mean - more stronger, healthier and confident. That is just my personal perception of it.
