The Importance of a Positive Body Image


Body Image is not just how we look, it’s also about how we feel in our own body. By having a negative body image you not only affect your mental health but also your physical health. It’s so important to try maintaining a positive body image so that you can feel better both mentally and physically.


Nearly 50% of young girls aged between 13-17 years reported a desire to be as skinny as the models they were seeing in fashion magazines. It resulted in them wanting to strive for that body. 1. Your mental and physical health will thank you.

Negative thoughts and feelings can lead to different mental health conditions, such as eating disorders and depression. Having a negative body image can also lead to low self-esteem, which can affect many areas of your life. Like not wanting to be around other people, being constantly obsessed about what you eat or being negative towards others about their body image.


All these things are very serious and shouldn’t be something to joke about, ever. Instead, people should try to be courageous and speak up about it to help others gain courage and help to get through negative events like these.



2. By seeing the beauty within yourself, you will see it in others too and it will radiate positive energy.

This one comes from my personal opinion because I truly believe that despite the flaws we might notice about ourselves, they are what makes us – us. We all deserve to feel beautiful because we are. People who see the beauty in themselves – see it in others and encourage those who don’t see it themselves, which in return radiates positive energy.

3. You will become happier.

When you start to feel genuinely good about yourself, not because of receiving compliments from others, but because of realizing how unique and special you are - you are becoming a happier person. You no longer need to be validated by anything or anyone and you know that your worth is not based on your looks.
